Well folks it did not pass. I'm disappointed and frustrated that the petition did not receive the 4500 register voters from this county that were needed to pass a petition that would have increased property values by bringing in economic development. The representative said that they would try again in the summer.
I can't emphasize enough how important this is to our community. The jobs and money that will come to the area with the changes would create us more opportunities and other economic developments.
See ya in the summer!

East Montgomery Liquor petition - New Caney, TX
Today is the big day for the new Valley Ranch Center that is being developed and if Specs is going to be moving in soon. A little back ground: Montgomery county in Texas has several precincts and a couple of them (East Montgomery county) still has the liquor laws from the probation. To get the law overturned, there has to be 4500 registered voters in the precinct to sign that they want it overturned. If that is achieved then it will go to the ballot and voted on by the community.
Why is this important?
This is important to the development due to economic and business development. If you are a restaurant you have to go to The Woodlands/ Spring area to buy your liquor. It has to be purchased in the same county as the establishment. Going the 10 minutes down 59 to Kingwood Specs is not an option. Very few businesses will travel the small distance to buy their liquor. Thus results in the area not being able to develop and attract the nicer restaurants which in return attract other businesses. It also keeps the revenue in the area; not sending it to The Woodlands.
The area is a hidden gem. It is beautiful and offers great opportunity for business to develop and families to grow. With a great location to 99 and 59, it offers quick transportation to other areas in Houston. In addition to the close proximity to Bush airport and now with 99 connecting a 15 minute commute to 45, it is ideal for growth.
I can't wait to see the results. I hope all the efforts pay off and they were able to collect the needed signatures. Stay tuned ... more to come. Tara Woolbright your Realtor of Choice -713.489.0507
